Headteacher’s Welcome - Mrs Kelly Bowe

Here at Crosscanonby St John’s Church of England Primary School, we welcome all children and families. Strong, positive relationships across our school family are at the heart of everything we do, creating an inclusive environment where everyone is valued, accepted, and supported to thrive.

The children at our school are happy, confident, and enthusiastic learners, both inside the classroom and in our outdoor environment. Our experienced staff deliver a carefully planned, broad, and ambitious curriculum designed to inspire curiosity and high achievement for every child. Through high-quality adaptive teaching and well-targeted support, we ensure that all pupils—including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those in receipt of Pupil Premium—can access the full curriculum and achieve their full potential. We foster a seamless, whole-school approach that promotes true inclusion, equity, and belonging.

Our pupils receive an excellent foundation in our Early Years setting, enabling them to transition smoothly and confidently into Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

We encourage our children to consistently strive to be the best they can be. As a small school, we offer small class sizes that allow us to know every child as an individual, while providing the rich opportunities and high academic standards of a larger setting.

Our Christian vision is lived out daily through our core values, particularly love, kindness, and respect. Guided by our vision to "do good, love, and value one another," our pupils are nurtured to grow academically, socially, and spiritually.

Every member of staff at Crosscanonby St John’s shares a passion for teaching, delivering engaging lessons that inspire a lifelong love of learning. We enrich our curriculum with educational visits, hands-on experiences, and a vibrant, fully accessible extra-curricular programme that develops individual talents and broadens horizons. Beyond academic success, we are committed to developing the whole child; dedicated sensory spaces, evidence-based interventions, and tailored resourcing ensure every pupil is supported to flourish.

We maintain strong, active links with St John’s Church, Crosscanonby, the Aspatria Small Schools Partnership (ASSP), and our local community. This deep-rooted network fosters a strong sense of pride, local heritage, and belonging. Furthermore, our pupils are empowered to become proactive global citizens—developing a strong sense of social justice, agency, and responsibility to advocate for positive change.

Please feel free to contact us to arrange a visit. You will be warmly welcomed and able to see our happy, hardworking pupils and beautiful environment in action.
