Well done!
, 18 Feb 2017 09:06:02 GMTHeating Update
Over the last week i have been working hard with Cumbria County Council and a local engineering firm to try to reinstate the heating at the school.

Sadly it is not a simple job. Not only did we suffer boiler failure but the pipework failed too. This pipework is all sunken underground so cannot be accessed.

We have some temporary heating within the classrooms at the moment but it is not ideal. It is not adequate when the weather is very cold as it is at the moment. We will be installing some more robust temporary heating on Monday and Tuesday to try and alleviate the problem in the short term. Things are made more difficult as our electrical network is at capacity so we cannot use anymore electrical heat sources.

I have a meeting on Monday with several members of the CCC buildings team to look at how we can re-pipe the whole school whilst the school remains open. This will require very careful planning but i am confident we can do it with minimal disruption to the school day.

Re-piping a whole school would ideally be done in summer as, even with the school closed, it would take up to 6 weeks. An open school slows down the work.

I will keep you up to date as and when i have more information.

, 11 Feb 2017 15:31:19 GMTInternet safety
Class 3 visited the Wave Centre on Thursday to listen to an Internet Safety talk by local PCSOs and Nicola Woolley.

It is very important that we discuss online safety with children regularly and keep them up to date with developments.

In this session children were interested to learn about the age restrictions that are on some very common internet services including Facebook and Twitter.

{gallery:Internet Safety}
, 10 Feb 2017 10:21:10 GMTNetherhall Sports Camp - Half Term
On Wednesday 22nd February, children can take part in a sports camp at Netherhall Sports Centre between 10am and 2pm. It is difficult to organise such events as a lot of money has to be spent in the lead up to the event (food, drink etc) and if the event is not supported we lose money instead of making it. With low ticket sales by Wednesday morning we were not able to risk running the event at a loss.
, 08 Feb 2017 19:07:45 GMT7-a-side Football
The Year 5/6 football team we're back in action today at the Netherhall 7-a-side tournament. Sadly, yesterday it suffered catastrophic failures leaving the school without heating or hot water.

Cumbria County Council have informed me that due to the size and complexity of replacing the boiler/heating system/pipework this will have to take place in the summer holidays and is being scheduled.

In the meantime their engineers are working hard to provide the school with temporary heating and hot water and this work should be completed by Monday. There will also be major disruption to the school's mains water supply tomorrow whilst they install new systems.

I apologise for the inconvenience that this causes but rest assured I am working hard to ensure we are open and safe as soon as possible.

Mr C Steele
, 01 Feb 2017 19:22:12 GMTSchool Open
We are open again today! We have engineers on site working away in the plant room to get our heating systems back online. Hopefully work will be completed today.

We have temporary heaters running in classrooms but they're not as effective as the central heating so make sure you wear your jumpers!

, 24 Jan 2017 11:28:29 GMTSCHOOL CLOSED - 23RD JANUARY
Due to heating problems we are required to close the school today. The Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) inspection not only looks at the effectivness of the school and outcomes for learners but ensures that schools are catering for the students social, moral, spritiual and cultural development needs. It delves into the effectivness of RE teaching and assesses the effectiveness of leadership and management within the school.

I am really pleased with the report that has just been released and several quotes really stand out that i think sum up our school. "Distinctive Christian values permeate relationships across the school community and result in the school being a happy and secure learning environment." This is something we are very proud of here and we also have always worked hard on making sure that "The school’s highly inclusive character has a positive impact on pupils’ spiritual development and well-being."

During the inspection the inspector spoke to the children and she was very impressed by their responses. "Children say, ‘We are like a big family. Everyone is really happy and gets on well together.’ Staff and parents agree that the school’s core Christian values encourage children to be tolerant, kind and caring towards others."

CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL REPORT
, 20 Oct 2016 08:38:14 GMTHalloween!
The children had a visited from local PCSOs today and listened to a talk about Halloween.

The talked covered topics on how to stay safe whilst out at night, what to think about if you're making your own costume and trick or treating in a responsible way.

The children are really looking forward to the Halloween disco on Friday evening!
, 18 Oct 2016 10:13:12 GMTCreepy Crawly Art!
Children in class 3 are once again being treated to some expert art lessons by Marion Martin.
